There is not one person in the world who does not like music. In fact music is that common language that unites all the beings. Amongst the various manifestations, the one where a group of musicians perform music is a music ensemble or a BAND. This culture is very popular with the youth. The group essentially has a lead vocalist and few other instrumentalists like drummers, percussionist and so on. Over the years, many bands have come and gone, that performed various genres of music like Rock, Pop, Hip hop, Jazz etcetera. But few have ensnared us with the magic of their lyrics, melody and tune.
Let us have a look at some of the top music bands of all time:
1. PINK FLOYD
If you were a College student in the 2004-05 times, and you were a hosteller to top it off, there is no way in heaven you are not acquainted with the pink Floyd, boy band. This rock band was probably one of the oldest bands, formed in London in 1965, by the 4 students and it had gained immense popularity in a short time. This was one of the first psychedelic music groups of London and this genre of music was mostly categorized as space rock. Over the years Pink Floyd has shown some refined sense of music and has been described as an ‘acid rock’, ‘art rock’ and ‘progressive rock’ music group.
Though all the songs of this commercially successful band were instant hits, but some of the legendary tastes that one can easily hum along are, Comfortably Numb, Another brick in the wall, High Hopes etc.
2. BACKSTREET BOYS
Backstreet boys, more commonly called as the BB, is the most commercially successful boy band in the history of music groups. Rising to fame with their debut international album ‘Backstreet Boys’ in 1996, this American Band had let the people go crazy after their music, tunes and lyrics. Thereafter, their success story continued with back to back releases till 2000, the year in which their mega hit album ‘Millennium’ and ‘Black and Blue’ came out.
In spite of some internal rifts the band played on. Cone 2015, the band’s first documentary movie is set to release called “Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of”.
Backstreet Boys have sold 130 million records worldwide, thus being in the top 10 in billboard 200, making them the only all-boy band in history to do so. Some of the famous songs from this band that we all can relate with, Show me the meaning, As long as you love me, Shape of my heart, etc.
3. GREEN DAY
This American punk rock band was formed way back in the 1980s. Through the years its membership has seen alterations, but mostly they have performed in a trio. Their first super successful album, ‘Dookie’, came out in 1994 which revived mainstream punk in the U.S, selling over 10 million copies in the home country alone.
Over the years three more albums were released which weren’t as successful as Dookie but had received double platinum and gold statuses. In 2009 Green Day released their album “21st century breakdown” which is the band’s best performance till date and has won several awards including GRAMMY. This commercially successful band has sold more than 75 million records worldwide and the song “Boulevard of broken dreams” has won several hearts. Other captivating songs of this band are Wake me up when September ends, 21 guns, American idiot, etc.

4. AC/DC
If you are a hard rock fan and you are even the list bit into rock and roll and heavy metal, you probably know what a phenomenon AC/DC is. This Australian hard rock band was formed in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. In the initial years the band saw various changes in membership and the albums of 70’s and 80’s could not muster much popularity. The band suffered a huge set back with the sudden death of Bon Scott, the lead singer and co-songwriter, in 1977. The group considered disbanding but after many deliberations came out with the album ‘Back in Black’ as a tribute to Bon Scott, which stirred up the masses. This album became the all-time best seller, selling over 10,000 copies a day in its first week. The subsequent albums went onto become U.S’s number one. Their success story saw a drop since the release of their top album “For those about to Rock we salute you” but AC/DC is unequivocally one of the best hard rock bands of all times and their various awards testify their impact on the people.

5. GUNS N’ ROSES
The influence of hard rock on the masses can be well credited to this American band, formed in the 1980s in Los Angeles. The former lineup changed several time with Axl Rose as the only original member present today in the band. Guns n’ roses climbed to super stardom with their debut album ‘Appetite for Destruction’ launched in 1987, which made to the top of billboard 200. The album’s song “Sweet Child o’ Mine” not only reached Billboard Hot 100, but also sold over 28 million copies worldwide. Their subsequent albums were equally competent to stir up the crowd. Guns’ n Roses are glorified for reviving the mainstream rock music, when the dance music and metal pop was more common. The late 80’s and early 90’s was portrayed as a period in which they brought about the “hedonistic rebelliousness”. Their presence was compared with the previous legends, Rolling Stones. The impact of GnR was such; it earned the sobriquet ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Band’.
