The Vampire Finch comes in the class of the sharp beaked birds. These harmless looking birds have a habit of grasping adult birds of all sizes with its feet and drinking their blood. They are hard to shake off and come back for more.

Ribbon Tailed Astrapia

Ribbon Tailed Astrapia is a bird which is endemic to the islands of Papua New Guinea. It is a medium sized bird with the longest tail feathers when compared with any other species of birds. The long tail which makes it attractive is found only in the male ones. The male ones use their long tail to attract the female birds. The tail has a length of 2 feet. The female birds have a brownish-black body.

The Greater Honey guide emerges featherless from eggs laid in other bird’s nest (like that of a cuckoo). As it grows, the monstrous bill hook drops off. Well, this is the only bird that does business with humans by guiding them to honey so that they can break open the hive. The young ones shake off their nest mates leaving only a single Honey guide chick.

Vulturine Guinea Fowl

The Vulturine Guinea Fowl is one the most aggressive birds in the world. They are famous for being used in games. They are amongst the creepiest birds with a long and sharp beak. They use their beak to get insects from inside the soil. They have red bright eyes and sharp spurs.

Being one of the largest birds in the planet, this bird is also known for its diet which consists of sizeable monkeys and antelopes. On one occasion, it is known to have attacked a seven year old child on its way to school. The numbers of this super-raptor is quickly declining due to habitat loss.

Don’t let this innocent looks of the bird fool you. This bird is a wannabe raptor. They can imitate the calls of songbirds and lure them in. Once these birds are within its reach, it hammers them to death. They impale these songbirds by dragging it to the nearest thorn bush tearing its body apart. During breeding season, the males impale songbirds along its territory to ward off enemies.

This is one bird you certainly wouldn’t have known. This bird holds the record for the one with the shortest name. It belongs to the species of Hawaiian Honeycreeper found in Hawaiian Islands. This bird was listed by the IUCN as critically endangered. However, there is a possibility that it is extinct due to no recent sightings or records.

Turkey Vulture

The Turkey Vulture is one gross bird which eats rotting carrion, shell fish washed up and died days earlier, and fecal matter from other animals. Now wait for the worst part- It cleans itself with its piss. I don’t think these birds have any predators considering their gross diet and cleanliness.
