Media Picks Its When They Say It:Politicians And Their Hyped Remarks

Indian politics and politicians are famous for a lot of things; corruption, laziness, the inability to act and the list goes on. But one thing that tops the list is blabbering out indecent remarks for women. Many times these speeches or remarks have caused a stir amongst the people of the nation, especially the youth. We bring forward to you 5 such cases, which raised many eyebrows and outrage against the speaker.

#5 Banwari Lal Singhal (BJP Rajasthan)

Mr Banwari earned nationwide disgrace by his comment stating that wearing skirts in schools lead to sexual harassment soon after the much disgraceful Delhi Nirbhaya rape case. He even went a step further by writing a letter to the Rajasthan state chief secretary to ban skirts from schools. He was quoted as saying: “Girls either walk to school or wait for school buses at various points in Alwar (Rajasthan). That is when they face lewd comments from mischievous elements. It should be prohibited keeping in view the rise of social crimes against women. The school should have pant-shirts or salwar suits as uniforms for girl students.” So if we believe him, if any girl wants to save herself from sexual abuse, she should drop the idea of wearing skirts and if she does, she is eternally safe from perverts.

#4 Tapas Pal (AIMTC/ TMC West Bengal)

The Bengali actor turned politician created a hiccup both for himself and his party when he said: “If anyone from the Opposition dares to touch any woman then I will send my boys and get women of CPI (M) raped.” He even stated openly that he roams around with arms and he is a rowdy and won’t hesitate to use a gun against his opponents. As soon as the news went viral and social media took over, everybody from the politician and the party had to apologize, even his wife had to jump in between to apologize on behalf of him.

#3 Abu Asim Azmi (SP Uttar Pradesh)

The father in law to Bollywood actor Ayesha Takia gave a remark so shameful that even the actor said that she was ashamed. He was seen saying: “Under Islam, rape is punishable. Any woman if, whether married or unmarried, goes along with a man, with or without her consent, should be hanged. Both should be hanged. It shouldn’t be allowed even if a woman goes by consent.” This remark brought lot of humiliation to the already humiliated Samajwadi Party. Later instead of apologizing, he “Clarified” his remark by stating that “I never said that the girl who is raped should be punished. I said rapist should be punished and girl is a victim. I said that all of us should show solidarity with the girl.” Well that’s inspiring!

#2 Abhijeet Mukherjee (INC West Bengal)

Abhijeet Mukherjee, the son of the President of the largest democracy of the world made this list and that too the second spot. Quite interesting! Just around a week after the 16 December Delhi rape case, he spoke to a local Bengali news channel to say: “What’s basically happening in Delhi is a lot like Egypt or elsewhere, where there’s something called the Pink Revolution, which has very little connection with ground realities. In India, staging candle-lit marches, going to nightclubs – we did all this during our student life too, we were students too – I know every well what kind of character students should have. Those who claim to be students – I can see many beautiful women among them –“highly dented-painted” – they’re giving interviews on TV, they’ve brought their children to show them the scenes. I have grave doubts whether they’re students, because women of that age are generally not students.” He thought as he belongs to the first family of India this interview might go unnoticed, but sadly for him he provided the oil for the already lit fire in the hearts of the infuriated countrymen. The following weeks saw two things, one, he apologized to everyone by giving many interviews and two, he got disgraced on the social media. For some time he must have been the most hated person in the country as the social networking sites were flooded with posts about him which included insults and jokes. The matter soon dozed off but he still hasn’t gained much respect after the incident.

#1 Mulayam Singh Yadav (SP Uttar Pradesh)

When you think politicians can’t stoop any lower, they dig a hole and prove you wrong. On April 10 2014, the Samajwadi Party head created a black hole for his already highly inspiring party that it sucked in what little respect was left of him and his party. The speech was outcome of the anti rape law which stated that those charged with rape will be hanged. Addressing a rally Mulayam said, “Rape accused should not be hanged. Men make mistakes”. He even added, “Boys and girls fall in love but due to differences they fall apart later on. When their friendship ends, the girl complains she has been raped”. As expected and hell broke loose all over the country. The party and the party supremo was disgraced, but for SP it wasn’t a new thing. We provide him the top spot in this and the bottom spot in our respected peoples list.
